Abstract

A recap of the favorite stories of 2005 chosen by the staff of the Portland Phoenix. The top five stories are: Gov. John Baldacci and the failure of several of his initiatives; the return from Iraq of the son of Tenant's Harbor writer Nicholas von Hoffman; the halt of aerial pesticide spraying in the Maine blueberry industry, brought about by lawsuits threatened by environmental groups; the planning of the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, which singer-songwriter Carol Noonan says will be up and running early next year; and problems with MaineCare claims processing that caused healthcare providers around the state to stop taking new MaineCare patients.
