"Politics + Other Mistakes" piece on the Christian Civic League of Maine, commenting on the league's loss of political clout since voters rejected the group's attempt to overturn the state's gay rights law last November. Michael Heath, executive director, was rebuffed when he attempted to endorse a candidate in this year's Republican gubernatorial primary. Chandler Woodcock, the eventual primary winner, feared Heath's endorsement would hurt him with moderate Republicans and destroy him in the general election. Heath was so angry over Woodcock's implication that league support had become political poison that he quit the Republican Party.
