Abstract

"This Just In" piece reporting that the Alehouse bar on Market Street in Portland will close on August 20. The bar, which has been involved in litigation with its landlord, Eric Cianchette, settled the three lawsuits this week. Terms of the settlement include voluntary termination of the lease for the Alehouse. Owner Russ Riseman says his decision to move was based on a number of factors, including the city's decision to triple the barstool tax and renovations Riseman would have to make to meet state fire code. Riseman says he is looking for a new location and hopes to continue the Alehouse's dive-bar tradition.
