"This Just In" piece calling into question the official version of events when Ryan Rideout, a 25-year-old mentally ill man, hanged himself in the Maine State Prison Supermax cell on October 5. Jeffrey Merrill, warden, praised the efforts of staff to save the man. But Joseph Bradley, 26, who was recently released from the Warren prison, said it took a half an hour for a guard to respond to his alarm buzzer, and that the guard then verbally taunted the hanging man. Jesus Rodriguez, another Supermax prisoner, gave a similar version of events. Andrews Campbell, the Rideout family's attorney, plans to pursue a wrongful death suit against the state, warden Merrill, and unnamed guards at the Supermax.
