Abstract

On April 4, League Day at the State House will honor the League of Young Voters for their public-interest achievements. Justin Alfond, League state director, plans to have hip-hop and spoken-word performances, and to bring "youth culture" to the halls of power. The League is a hybrid political-action group, mixing national political idealism with local activism, and combining grassroots campaigning with sophisticated electronic data mining. With comments by Dave Marshall, Portland City Councilor; Jeff Ferland, a 22-year-old who ran for the Maine House last year; and Rep. Anne Haskell, D-Portland. With a history of the League from its founding in April of 2004.
