Abstract

Article on the Farm Bill, which is currently winding its way through Congress. Maine gets such a small piece of the federal Farm Bill money for its crops - about $7 million - that its share registers as zero percent of all state allocations. While most farming subsidies go to the "big five" commodities, Maine's most lucrative earners are potatoes, blueberries, and dairy. With details on how the bill affects Maine, and a related article on the food stamp program in the state.
