Abstract

"This Just In" piece on Rep. Tom Allen (D-Maine), reporting that eight anti-war protestors were arrested at Allen's Portland office on September 25 at a rally supporting impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney. In February, two other anti-war protests at the office led to the arrest of 19 protestors. Bruce Gagnon, a longtime Maine peace activist, says Allen's staff is particularly cold and harsh in dealing with the protestors. Eleven people were arrested last year at the Bangor office of Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine). In contrast, protests at the offices of Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Rep.Mike Michaud (D-Maine) have not resulted in any arrests. With comments by Portland lawyer John Branson, who has represented some of those arrested.
