"This Just In" piece on upcoming public hearings on Plum Creek Timber Company's controversial development plan for 20,000 acres of Maine's North Woods. Plum Creek wants to build about 1,000 housing units and two resort hotels along the edge of Moosehead Lake. Environmentalists like the Natural Resources Council of Maine and Sierra Club are bombarding the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) with complaints about the environmental impacts of the development. Luke Muzzy, Plum Creek's regional director, said that in retrospect, more aggressive environmental thinking would have been a good idea from the start.
