Abstract

Article on the difficulties of attracting filmmakers to the state, noting that other states (and Canada) offer up to 40 percent tax rebates, compared to Maine's 10-12 percent. The Maine Film Office, along with the Maine State Film Commission, are advocates of the Maine Attraction Film Incentive Program, which Governor John Baldacci created in 2006. The incentive program focuses on wages and income taxes, but cannot compete with other states. Greg Gadberry, assistant director of the Maine Film Office, said the office was involved in about 100 projects last year, thirty-six of which qualified for incentives. With a partial list of productions filmed in Maine. Details.
