Abstract
"Politics + Other Mistakes" piece commenting on the increase in the state beer tax that was recently approved by the Legislature to help pay for the struggling Dirigo Health program. In addition to beer, the new taxes are being placed on wine and soda - all products that are driving up the cost of health care. With tongue-in-cheek recommendations for taxing other health threats in the state, including skiing and snowboarding, Old Orchard Beach, lawyers, the Portland Police Department, cars, movies, and more.
