Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on a meeting of the Maine Global Action Network (MEGAN), which was held recently at the Peace and Justice Center in Portland. Financed in May by grants from Resist and Public Citizen, MEGAN has hired Matt Schlobohm and Ethan Miller, both 23, to raise Maine's public consciousness on corporate and trade issues. Specifically, their work is to organize a lobbying campaign to get U.S. represenative Tom Allen, Maine's First District Democrat, to vote against legislation in Congress, HR 2149, informally called "Fast Track," which would require Congress to consider future trade legislation in only 20 hours of debate with an up-or-down, yes-or-no vote, no amendments permitted, within 60 days of its introduction.
