Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on the cost of policing Portland's Old Port. The city wants to pass at least $30,000 of the annual cost on to the bars in the district. Currently, there are three options being considered by the City Council, including a "bar stool tax," a "modified bar stool tax," or simply raising the cost of a bar license from $250 to $850. With details on each of the options.
