Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on the Green Independent Party of Maine, which captured four wins in the November elections and has two viable candidates running for govenor. With details about the party's values, internal and external challenges, the primary, and Jonathan Carter, who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House in 1992 and for Maine governor in 1994. Still, Carter is the Green candidate most likely to win the gubernatorial primary and go on to challenge the favorite, U.S. represenative John Baldacci, a Democrat.
