Abstract

"Cover Story" piece on the University of Southern Maine's (USM) Gloria S. Duclos Convocation series, "Diaspora: Meanings of Home." What USM has done with its convocation series, and its integration of Diasporic studies into the overall curriculum, is to begin to facilitate creative enterprises among Diasporic peoples in Maine. The Osher Map Library spent nearly a year gathering artifacts and maps for their cartographic exhibition: "Exodus and Exile: The Spaces of Diaspora," a show that can help people trace traditional and historical paths of exile, and to become geographically acquainted with a homeland they may not have ever directly experienced. With special focus on Rabbi Harry Sky of Falmouth, who will participate in the series on April 14 with a lecture titled "Diaspora: Blessing or Curse."
