Abstract

An article on confiscations by state and federal agents of illegal species from Maine businesses. Federal agents impounded an old walrus skull that Sewall Maddocks found in Alaska from his Boothbay Harbor store, Paine's Clothing Store, and took a 150-year-old framed great black-backed gull from Cappy's Chowder House in Camden. State game wardens seized koi fish from a Chinese restaurant in Freeport. With details on how exotic and invasive species have adversely affected Maine wildlife and on the sometimes over-the-top enforcement of the law.
