Abstract

Over the past three years, carved eagles by Kittery native John Haley Bellamy (1836-1914) have sold for high prices at auctions in Maine and NH. As recently as the early 1990s, Bellamy eagles sold for $8,000 to $12,000, but in August 2005, Northeast Auctions in Portsmouth sold the record-breaking $660,000 Bellamy eagle.
