Abstract

"House of the month" piece on the Frederick Thompson-designed West Mansion on 181 Western Promenade, which is up for sale again for $2.4 million, after being listed in 2000 for $1.5 million. Greater Portland Landmarks calls the house, built in 1911 for Gregory Fletcher West, "the largest and most elaborate turn-of-the-century dwelling" ever built in the city. The house drew crowds as Portland Symphony Orchestra's Decorator Showcase house four seasons ago, and its new kitchen was recently featured in "Better Homes & Gardens."
