Abstract

The 91-year-old Shwartz Building on Congress and High streets in Portland is undergoing an extensive renovation. In the early 1900s, a facade was built around the heart of the Warren Mansion (circa 1850), and a tower was added. The unusual angling of the mansion's entrance was preserved. The rehabilitation was prompted by a city inspection that found code violations, but has expanded in scope with the use of state and federal historic tax credits.
