Abstract

"Made in Maine" piece about the 125-foot research vessel Hero, currently moored in Washington state. The trawler, built at the Gamage Shipyard of greenheart wood which can withstand the slicing ice of Antarctica, brought supplies to the American research center there, and also served as a floating lab for many onboard marine biology studies. In 2008, she was bought by Sun Feather LightDancer. Charles Lagerbom, president of the Antarctican Society, wants to bring her back to Maine.
