Abstract

As winners of the Project Greenlight directing competition, Maine filmmakers Kyle Rankin and Efram Potelle received a $1.7 million budget to direct a Miramax production of "The Battle of Shaker Heights," written by Erica Beeny, winner of the screenplay contest. The competition, sponsored by LivePlanet, Miramax, and with the support of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, pitted the two directors against 7,200 others. Rankin and Potelle met while students at UMaine Orono. They are currently in pre-production for the film, which is expected to premiere this August.
