Abstract

Description of the process through which Regional Waste Systems turns Portland-area trash into energy at the incinerator on Blueberry Road in Portland. The plant burns about 550 tons of trash each day, yielding ash waste, carbon dioxide and water, and electricity. The incinerator, which sells the electricity to the power company, generates enough electricity in a single day to power the town of Freeport.
