Abstract

"chowder" piece reporting that so far in 2004, Maine has been home to 346 nesting pairs of eagles and 298 eaglets. Phillip Demaynadier of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife notes that Maine leads all of New England in eagle recovery. When eagles were put on the endangered list is 1967, there were only 500 pairs in the whole country.
