Abstract

Article tracing the whereabouts of the 93-foot schooner Kestrel II, designed by naval architect John Alden for media mogul Guy P. Gannett. Launched in 1930, the schooner is known to have been registered in Maine, New York, and Honduras. By 1953, there is no record of the Kestrel II. With comments by John Gannett, who spent time on the boat as a boy; and Phineas Sprague of Portland Yacht Services.
