Abstract

LaVerdiere's Super Drug Store, with 72 outlets in northern New England, became Maine's largest drug retailer by offering an eclectic mix of automobile headlights, camping gear and medication. The entry of huge retailers like Wal-Mart into the Maine market is forcing the Waterville-based chain to rethink its business strategy. The firmly recently centralized management functions and plans to narrow its merchandise mix, focusing on a core business of prescription drugs and related items. Details.
