Since 1984 Hannaford Bros of Scarborough has taken advantage of a little-known state tax credit that allows companies that invest at least $5 million and create at least 200 jobs in a year to deduct up to $300,000 annually from their state income tax bills -- A recent audit by the state tax assessor's office indicates that Hannaford does not qualify for the exemption, meaning the company might have to pay the state up to $900,000 in back taxes Details
