Abstract

The Pineland Center in Pownal, a self-contained community with 38 buildings on nearly 300 acres, was established in 1908 -- During its peak in the 1950s, it had around 1,500 residents and 240 employees -- The center is scheduled to be closed, but the deteriorating condition of the buildings and the fact that they were originally built under a different set of standards makes any re-use of the facility questionable -- Details
