Abstract
A rare avalanche on the steep back bowl area of the mountain at Sugarloaf USA in Carrabassett Valley yesterday left three skiers trapped in up to five feet of snow. The last major avalanche in Maine occurred ten years ago on Mount Katahdin, and resulted in the deaths of two hikers.
