Abstract

University of Southern Maine students rallied yesterday in support of professors Chris Castiglia, 34, and Chris Reed, 32, an openly gay couple who claim they are the victims of homophobia. Castiglia, an assistant professor in English and in the American and New England Studies program, was told last fall that his fixed-length contract would not be renewed, while Reed's tenure-track position is in jeopardy because of a poor review by a committee of art faculty.
