Abstract

Doug Caldwell, a fifth-grade teacher at South Portland's Small School, has incorporated the concept of integrated learning into an after-hours program that teaches students about coral reefs. Integrated learning introduces students to a subject through several disciplines, such as science, music, art and literature, and lets them approach the subject through the area in which they are strongest.
