Abstract

The Gulf of Maine Aquarium Development Corp., the group pushing to bring an aquarium to the Portland area, has hired architect Peter Chermayeff, a founding partner of Cambridge Seven Associates of Cambridge, Mass., to evaluate sites for the proposed facility. Chermayeff was the leading figure in the design of Boston's New England Aquarium, which opened in 1969 and attracts one million visitors annually. Cambridge Seven Associates also designed Baltimore's National Aquarium, the central element in the revitilization of that city's downtown. Details.
