Abstract

The The U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Portland are both investigating two separate trucking accidents that occurred on the Maine Turnpike to see if federal criminal charges and civil penalties can be brought against the two drivers and the companies they work for. The accidents include the one that occurred last fall in which four teenagers were killed. The second one took place on June 10, 1994, and involved the death of 11-year-old Heidi Tobiason. The investigation into last fall's accident was underway even before the Tobiason tragedy took place.
