Abstract

DeLong Sportswear Inc. of Iowa closed its Harmony mill last year, putting 80 people out of work and pushing the town's unemployment rate past 20 percent. DeLong, which operated the mill since 1977, this month announced that it would give the factory, its equipment and its land to the town, and would even pay to do the paperwork the gift would require. The town is spending around $1,135 per month to keep the utilities on and the factory insured while it tries to find a new tenant for the facility. Details.
