Abstract

Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson says that Maine's mandatory arrest laws in domestic abuse cases would have subjected O.J. Simpson to stricter penalties than he received in California after pleading guilty to domestic abuse. Anderson cited two tough jail sentences handed out in district court last week as proof that her office is tough on those charged with domestic abuse. Both Anderson and local advocates for battered women say the local Abuser Education Program is important in deterring continued abuse after an abuser is arrested. Details, related article.
