Abstract

The Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce on June 29 cancelled an invitation to Gov. McKernan to be the featured speaker at an industry dinner during the Maine Potato Blossom Festival. The group took the measure because they say McKernan is not supporting opponents of the proposed buyout of Fairfield Energy Venture by Central Maine Power Co. McKernan responed by saying he has established a state task force to explore options for keeping the 33-megawatt wood-fired power plant operating in the event of a buyout. Details, related article.
