Abstract

In May, Woodard & Curran Inc., an engineering company in Portland, received a Grand Award for its design of the new Peaks Island high-tech sewage treatment plant. The year-old facility, located next to the ferry landing in the village, cost $3.9 million, and is the first municipal facility in Maine to use a new treatment technology that allows a smaller building with extensive odor controls without the traditional mixing and settling tanks used at conventional plants.
