Legislative leaders will meet today with Gov. McKernan to discuss the state's new automobile emissions testing program, and they will meet with representatives of the federal Environmental Protection Agency to determine what sanctions Maine might face if it fails to continue the federally required test. Several key lawmakers are calling for a special legislative session to consider the forthcoming recommendations of the legislative panel studying the testing program, but Gov. McKernan wants to hear what the committee has to say before calling lawmakers to Augusta. Details.
