Abstract

State legislative analysts last week released figures showing that the state budget will run a deficit between $207 million and $325 million if programs are not cut or taxes are not increased. Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joseph Brennan and independent Angus King have outlined their budget priorities for the next two years, but neither they nor Republican Susan Collins would raise taxes to cover increases in spending for program. Independent candidate Jonathan Carter is the only one of the four to advocate a tax increase. Details.
