Abstract

The Legislature's Legislative Committee voted 6-3 to allow the late-introduction of a bill aimed at keeping convicted felons sentenced to a year or more in prison from being admitted to the Maine bar. The bill's sponsor credits the Harvey Prager controversy and resulting public outrage with the move to introduce the measure. Prager is the convicted marijuana smuggler who received an alternative sentence for his crime, and is now nearing completion of law school.
