Abstract

A bill recently approved in the Legislature and intended to combat the spread of AIDS among intravenous drug abusers will allow the purchase of hypodermic needles at pharmacies in Maine without a prescription starting in October. Intravenous drug users account for about 12 percent of all people testing positive for the virus that causes AIDS.
