Abstract

Three months after announcing that this will be his last term as Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, John L. Martin seems to be slowly relaxing his iron grip on the Legislature. Some in that body still see Martin as being synonomous with the exercise of raw political power, and most political observers have little clue what the speaker plans to do if and when he relinquishes his post.
