Abstract

On October 2 the Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield was the site of a confrontation between local white youths and some of the school's black students. An official with the state Attorney General's Office has called the incident a hate crime, but many in Pittsfield see it as just another incident pitting the "dormies" against the "townies."
