Abstract

The Legislature's Appropriations Committee voted 9-4 to endorse a proposal to reduce monthly Aid to Families with Dependent Children benefits for 23,000 Maine households by 4 percent and to eliminate the ability of AFDC recipients to retain modest earnings without having their benefits reduced. Democrats on the Human Resources Committee have indicated they will vote against any budget which includes cuts in benefits under the AFDC program and the general-assistance program.
