Abstract

The federal Cable Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992 governs how much cable-television companies may charge for their services and what programming they can carry. Under the law, cable companies and television stations must negotiate agreements by October 6, 1993, but a stalemate in negotiations between stations and companies in Maine means that the local stations may pull their programming from the cable companies. Details, related article, list of Maine cable-TV companies and status of agreements with local stations.
