Abstract

A photo essay on Burnham and Morrill (B & M) Beans, which was founded in 1867 in Portland and now occupies Beanpot Circle on the outskirts of town. The average length of service for the 180 employees is 16 years, largely because the workplace is seen as being made up of "family." The most senior employee, Skip Richardson, has worked there 43 years.
