Abstract
Bonnie Dermody of Portland, a recovering heroin addict, has been on methadone for seven years. She gets the medication from the Discovery House in South Portland and is allowed to take home a week's supply. Her husband, Vinnie, died of AIDS, contracted from sharing needles. She once taught classes on being a travel agent. She lives in a small apartment with her dog and believes she will always have to take methadone.
