Abstract

After divorcing an alcoholic husband, Diane married recovering alcoholic Vance Child, who introduced her to taxidermy. Diane Child picked up the skill quickly and was one of the first women to be certified in Maine. Both Diane and Vance are Reiki Masters and Eucharistic Ministers and have worked for 11 years at their successful Fall's Taxidermy shop and Mainely Critters Wildlife Museum in Dixfield. Diane owns horses, loves animals, and believes they communicate with her as she works on them, giving her ideas of how to pose them. The couple's free museum displays Maine animals in natural poses. Three years ago, they lost their home, workplace, and museum in a fire, but rebuilt everything with help from the community.
