Abstract

In the first of a three-part series on homelessness, mention is made of how the temporary closing of the Portland Public Library led to an immediate increase in those using the city's homeless shelters. The library closed to accommodate an ongoing renovation. It has reopened, with access via the Elm Street entrance, and shelter numbers appear to have returned to normal from the March spike.
