Abstract

Extending the Appalachian Trail, an idea put forth by Joseph Brennan during last year's gubernatorial campaign, is apparently moving ahead without Brennan. Gov. Angus King and New Brunswick Premier Frank McKenna will meet in April on the Fort Fairfield bridge to symbolize their commitment to the project, which has a target completion date of April 22, 2000. Plans are for the spur trail to continue north from Katahdin's Baxter Peak, cross into Canada at Fort Fairfield and end on 4,180-foot Mount Jacques Cartier in Quebec.
