Abstract

An amendment to the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act makes it illegal to shoot seals. Salmon farming is the only fishery on the East Coast faced with the need to occasionally kill seals. Michael Hastings of the Maine Aquaculture Association expects the law to make life more difficult for the state aquaculturists.
