Abstract

Central Maine Power Co. shareholders on May 24 will vote on a proposal designed to discourage a hostile takeover of the company. The so-called poison pill defense automatically increases the number of shares a corporation has whenever an uninvited suitor buys up a significant portion of the outstanding stock. Portland attorney Peter Murray is lobbying fellow stockholders to vote against the measure, which was adopted by directors on September 28, 1994. Details.
